Captains Regent Mirco Tomassoni and Alberto Selva traveled to New York
to visit U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and members of the large community of
Sammarinese in New York City from December 8-13, 2007.
During the visit, the Captains Regent and Secretary of State Stolfi participated in the high-level
plenary meeting of the General Assembly dedicated to the follow-up to the Special Session for Children
which focused on issues related to the exploitation of children. The meeting concluded with the adoption
of a Final Declaration reaffirming the United States commitment to a full implementation of the Declaration of
the Rights of the Children. Members of the General Assembly expressed their appreciation for San Marino's
efforts to support the fight against discrimination and violence towards children.
In addition to the U.N. meeting, the Captain Regents attended a dinner in their honor hosted by the Fratellenza Sammarinese.
The President of the Fratellanza affirmed the community's loyalty to the Republic and wished the Captains Regent a
"fruitful and successful term in office".
October 1st, 2007
U.S. Ambassador to San Marino, Ronald P. Spogli, visited the country.
He participated in the bi-annual ceremony for the Change of the Captains Regent accompanied
by Consul General Nora Dempsey. In connection with the ceremony, he met with San Marino
Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Fiorenzo Stolfi to discuss increased relations
between the two countries and joint initiatives to favor economic development.
Ambassador Spogli, who was interviewed by San Marino RTV station during the
ceremony, greatly admired an event which - throughout the centuries - continues to
represent the strong attachment of the Sammarinesi to freedom, democracy, and civic values.
He also axpressed appreciation for the remarks of the new Captains Regent and of the
"Official Speaker".

Ambassador Paolo Rondelli became the first San Marinese Ambassador to the United
States of America
on July 25 when he presented his credentials to President Bush in the Oval Office.
Arriving in a motorcade in a limousine flying the blue and white crested flag of the
Republic of San Marino, Ambassador Rondelli was joined by family members as he entered
the Diplomatic reception hall at the White House.
Invited into the Oval Office,
Rondelli was received by the President who shared insights on the life of the President
of the United States. President Bush spoke about how the United States is a country of
immigrants who contributed their strength to the national purpose.
The President added
that the U.S. is a country of opportunity exemplified by Ambassador Rondelli's family
members who had immigrated to the U.S. and become citizens.
President Bush asserted
his commitment to taking actions to advance freedom and universal values of liberty to
which Ambassador Rondelli responded San Marino looked forward to building on that strong
history of cooperation that was rising to a new level with the elevation of relations to
the Ambassadorial level.

U.S. Vice Consul Brian Winans represented Consul General Nora Dempsey at the annual 4th
of July celebration of the San Marino-USA Association.
Over 150 members attended the lively event in the presence of Secretary of State for Foreign
and Political Affairs, Fiorenzo Stolfi, and the first San Marino Ambassador to the United States, Paolo Rondelli.
Secretary Stolfi commemorated the event, stressing the role that San Marino immigrants have played in strengthening
the friendship between the two countries and donated Association President Paolo Berardi a picture of his recent
meeting with Secretary Rice in Washington.
Stolfi also donated the U.S. Consulate an artistic ceramic tile
painted by a Sammarinese artist, which has been added to the Consulate's art collection.

The San Marino-McKinsey Agreement.
Consul General Nora Dempsey hosted a press conference at the U.S. Consulate General in Florence to announce the
Republic of San Marino's choice of an American management consulting firm McKinsey & Company in helping to identify
future strategic steps for economic growth.
Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs of the U.S. Embassy in Rome,
Thomas Delare, also attended the event. San Marino’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Fiorenzo Stolfi, and
Secretary of State for Industry, Tito Masi, along with McKinsey's Director, Francesco Baldanza, presented a project
aimed at identifying the best development opportunities for San Marino's economy, with particular emphasis on the
tourism industry, and international commerce.
The McKinsey report will offer a comprehensive proposal for the
modernization, improvement and development of the tourism sector through the planning of new infrastructure, the
improvement of the use of urban spaces and the acquisition of financial resources.
The agreement between the Republic
of San Marino and McKinsey is aligned with the efforts being made to increase relations between San Marino and the United
States. These relations were recently strengthened by the appointment of the first American Ambassador to San Marino
and the first San Marino Ambassador to Washington. Image of this

The Consul General meets a Government Delegation.
Consul General Nora Dempsey met with a San Marino Government delegation headed by Secretaries of State for
Foreign Affairs, Fiorenzo Stolfi, and for Industry, Tito Masi, at the U.S. Consulate General in Florence.
The occasion was marked with a press conference that presented an agreement of collaboration between San Marino and
the U.S. management consultant firm, McKinsey.
During the meeting, the Consul General and the Secretaries of State
discussed initiatives to strengthen the economic partnership between the two countries particularly in the sector of
finance and business education.
Other items discussed included U.S. and San Marino activities in the General Assembly
of the United Nations, in the International Whaling Commission and the International Code of Conduct against the
Proliferation of Ballistic Missiles; the participation of representatives of the Department of State at the conference
of Small States at San Marino; the joint initiative to protect intellectual property rights; and the possible
participation of a San Marino candidate in the Department of State's International Visitor's Leadership Program.

San Marino's Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs in Washington.
On April 20th US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met in Washington with The Honorable
Fiorenzo Stolfi, Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs of the Republic of
San Marino.
Secretary Rice congratulated Fiorenzo Stolfi for his work as President of the
Council of Europe. She also thanked him for the Republic of San Marino's work within
international organizations, in particular the strong collaboration between the United States
and San Marino at the United Nations on the issue of reform of the organization
and of the General Assembly.
Secretary Rice welcomed an invitation to visit the Republic of San Marino.

The Ambassador of the United States presents his credentials.
Ronald P. Spogli, the first United States Ambassador to San Marino,
presented his credentials to the Captains Regents during a meaningful
ceremony at the Palazzo Pubblico in the presence of the Republic's highest
authorities and of the Consul General, Nora Dempsey. In his accreditation
speech the Ambassador highlighted the affinity of values upon which the historic
friendship between our two nations is founded.

Ambassador Spogli, who was accompanied by his wife Georgia Beth, continued his day
in San Marino by meeting with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Fiorenzo Stolfi,
with a government delegation comprised of Secretaries Macina, Masi and Andreoli, and with
representatives of the financial sector. Ambassador Spogli also visited the Borgo Medievale,
the Museum of the Emigrant, and the headquarters of the San Marino-America Association.
He also participated in a well attended press conference at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
During the meetings the government leaders, business representatives and the Ambassador agreed
upon a series of initiatives to favor development and increase economic exchanges and investments
between the two countries in the areas of professional business training, financial activities and tourism.

A New Board is elected for the San Marino-USA Association.The San Marino-USA
Association ("Fratellanza San Marino-America") elected a new board of directors during
its annual meeting in Serravalle.
Paolo Berardi was reelected president for a two year
term encompassing 2007-2009. Ilario Mularoni, Rino C. Canti, Luigi Moretti,
Stefano Berardi, Caterina Culcasi, Giancarlo Lazzari, Gian Quinto Bianchi e
Davide Benedettini were all elected board members. Fausto Bronzetti, Marino Mularoni
and Gino Moretti will form the board of auditors.
